Adoption Awareness Month

Posted by Amanda Thomas on

November is recognized nationally as Adoption Awareness Month.  Today, in the United States over 100,000 children are waiting for their permanent families.  Globally there is an estimated 153 million children at greater risk for neglect, abuse, poverty and health related crisis due to the death of at least one parent. The orphan crisis is real both here at home and abroad.

James 1:27

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

As Christians, we are often familiar with the theme of adoption throughout scripture.  Especially in the new testament, the emphasis on adoption is that we receive a new legal standing and relationship with God because he chose us to be full members of His family. (Romans 8:15-17) As brothers and sisters in Christ who have been accepted by God as His own children we have the opportunity to demonstrate Christ’s redeeming love by following His example.  (John 1:12-13)

So, who is called?

All of us.

Not everyone is equipped to adopt a child but by His mercy we can each pour out His love on those in need.

Pray - Pray for the children who wait.  (The average age to be adopted from foster care in the U.S. is 7 ½)

Give - Give support for orphan care from the abundance that God has given to you.

Support - Reach out to a foster or adoptive family and walk this journey with them.

Protect - Open your home and your hearts to children in crisis as a foster family.

Care - Open your home and hearts to a child in need of a forever family.

I encourage you to prayerfully consider how you can impact the life of an orphan for Christ.  If you have questions regarding the new Adoption Ministry at Grace or how you can become involved in the Adoption Ministry please let me know!
